DIY Greenhouse
While we wait for the demolition and rebuild of the upper floor and roof of the house, we're keeping busy on the land, working on the main features of our natural farming project: a shaded relaxation area for volunteers, fencing, gates, and... a greenhouse. The greenhouse we wanted was over €2,500... ouch! So we decided to build one ourselves. Matthias got some help from our new handy neighbor, Michel, and look at that! We're curious to see how strong it will be once it's fin

Those happy moments
Harvesting food from our garden and the immense joy that comes with it is one of my most cherished happy moments. Every time I discover a special treasure among the plants — potatoes hidden in the soil, berries tucked away beneath the leaves, or a cucumber we never planted but that grew from seeds left behind from last year — I feel like a child in an exquisite paradise. What a privilege it is to be in nature and to be able to eat its fruits. The taste of sun, rain, earth and

Mulching the trees
A thick layer of straw can make a big difference during the hot summer months. In this video, we mulch all of our newly planted fruit trees to help keep the soil moist after irrigation. By reducing evaporation, we can use as little water as possible while giving the trees the best chance to grow in a natural and healthy way. #naturalfarming #fukuoka #inlinewithnature #mulch #fruittrees #mulching

Do or do nothing?
This summer, our biggest challenge is helping our newly planted fruit trees survive the long, hot, and dry season. Without some extra water, they simply won't make it. We considered letting nature take its course, but after losing more than 40 newly planted trees last year—even with a 60 cm (elbow-high) layer of mulch around each one—we decided to take a different approach. Natural Farming constantly invites us to ask the question: Should we intervene, or should we do nothing

The garden continues and a little surprise
While we wait for more paperwork for the house, we've been putting our energy into next year's vegetable garden. 🌱 After laying out the first beds, we chatted with our friend Tayfun, a permaculture specialist in the Netherlands. He suggested aligning the beds with the contour lines so they can naturally capture and retain more of the rainwater flowing down the terraces. It meant redoing our work—but it will be worth it in the long run. It's amazing how quickly the landscape

400 kg of green manure seeds ready!
Raaaaaiiiiin! 🌧️ Perfect time to sow green manure seeds on the 4.5-hectare plot of land! Well… or so we thought. We have oats, maize, wheat, peas, yeros (a Spanish lentil vetch), mustard (which we received as a gift), and barley. Seeding rate: 20 kg of seeds per 1,000 square meters. 10 kg per 1,000 square meters now, and the rest in autumn. We decided to keep it cost-effective: 400 kg of seeds for 300 euros. We know many people practicing natural farming are worried about hi

Freehive - Episode 10
We finally managed to finish last summer’s update video! It was a season full of harvesting and processing fresh food straight from the garden — drying fruits and veggies, making juices to enjoy all year round, cooking up lots of marmalades, and even trying a little fermentation experiment. All that while selling our house, moving into a temporary place, and preparing for the renovation of the new house on the new land! #freehive #inlinewithnature #naturalfarming #harvest #se
