Our climate has very cold winter nights with temperatures below -15 degrees Celcius and very hot summers. It is very dry with 2 moments of rain in autumn and spring. This is why we sow 2 times a year. One time in autumn (September/October) before the rain and one time in spring (March/April) before the rain. If you are in a mild climate you can sow everything in autumn. When people collaborate, magic things happen. With some of our neighbors, we made seed balls to awaken the depleted soils in our area. The city hall allowed us to use the cement mixer, and although not perfect, it did work! Normally you take out the blades, so it even works more efficiently, but the mixer was big enough so the balls had enough space to form. Two days of hard work, good company, excellent food and the joy of being together amongst friends. Seeing the result of this collaboration is so exciting! Imagine what we can do if we would collaborate more. All the seed balls will be sowed this autumn. They contain a mixture of different grains, alfalfa, grasses and clovers.
